explanation of answer : hypnotic drugs are those substances which are used to enhance the quality of sleep , it means the hypnotic drugs are sleep induced medicines. and we know that barbital drug is a sedative drugs it means long time sleep inducing drugs. so we can say that barbital is a type of hypnotic drug . But the statement is given opposite of it. in short we can say Barbital is used as a hypnotic drug to reduce mental tension.
