texture of sedimentary rocks in hindi अवसादी शैलो का गठन : “texture” का अर्थ है – शैलो में कणों की आकृति , आकार एवं व्यवस्था। अवसादी शैलो का मुख्य भाग है कणों का आकार। आकार के आधार पर अवसादी शैल के कणों को pebbles (गुटिका) , gravel (बजरी) , silt (गोंद) , sand (बालू) , clay (मृतिका) के रूप में बांटा जाता है। ये सभी एक निश्चित प्रकार की rock प्रदान करते है।
आकार के आधार पर इन कणों के प्रचलित नाम निम्न प्रकार है –

| गोलाश्म (Balder) | 200 mm से बड़ा (प्राय: 8 इंच) | conglomerate |
| बटिया cobbles | 200 mm से 50 mm (8” से 2”) | conglomerate |
| गुटिका pebbles | 50 mm से 10 mm (2” से 2/5 ”) | conglomerate |
| बजरी gravel | 10 mm से 2 mm (2/5” से 2/25”) | conglomerate |
| बहुत मोटी बालू very coarse sand | 2 mm से 1 mm | sandstone |
| मोटी बालू coarse sand | 1 mm से 0.5 mm | sandstone |
| मध्यम बालू (medium sand ) | 0.5 से 0.25 mm | sandstone |
| महीन बालू fine sand | 0.25 mm से 0.1 mm | sandstone |
| गोंद silt | 0.1 mm से 0.01 mm | silt stone |
| मृत्रिका clay | 0.01 mm से कम | shale |
जिस अवसाद के आकार की कई श्रेणियां समान मात्रा हो उन्हें अवर्गित unassorted कहते है। इसके विपरीत जिस अवसाद में एक ही श्रेणी का अवसाद अधिक अनुपात में हो उसे सुवर्गित well sorted or graded कहते है।
अवसादी शैलो में कणों का आकार प्रधानतया अपक्षय की विधियों , पूर्व स्थित शैलो के गठन और संघटन तथा पदार्थ के अभिगमन की विधि और मात्रा पर निर्भर है। स्ट्रीम डिपोजिटस से कम सुवर्गित कण मिलते है।
एक शैल के कणों का आकार गोलीय , अंशत: गोलीय एवं कोणीय भी हो सकते है। वोल्केनिक गतिविधियों अथवा ग्लेसियर क्रियाओ से सामान्यता: कोणीय कण बनते है। breccias में rock फ्रेगमेंट कोणीय जबकि कोग्लोमेरेट्स में वे गोलीय होते है।
रासायनिक क्रियाओ में शैल गोलीय कण रखती है। यदि ये कण पिन हेड (1 mm) size के हो तो rock गठन oolitic कहा जाता है और यदि ये मटर के आकार के हो तो pisolitic कहे जाते है।
