here we are going to discuss here ionic solids conduct electricity in molten state but not in solid state explain class 12 question’s answer –

To solve this question you have to keep remember that the movement of ions are responsible to conductivity of electricity in ionic solids , but only in molten state , when the ionic solid is in solid state the ions can not move in the solid that is why the ions can’t generate electric conductivity. But in molten state or melt state the ions can travel or move inside the solid easily that is why they can generate electric conductivity.

Answer : In ionic solids electrical conductivity occurs due to movement of ions , in solid state the ions can not travel or move in ionic solids because the ions are bounded by strong electrostatic force of attraction between the ions that is why ionic solid work as insulator in solid state , but in melt state or molten state of ionic solids , ions can move inside the solid hence they shows the electrical conductivity property hence ionic solids conduct electricity in molten state.
