संघट्टन संख्या (COLLISION NUMBER)
अणुगति सिद्धान्त के अनुसार अणु सदैव गतिमान रहते हैं, वे सीधी रेखा में गति करते हैं जब तक कि वे अणु अन्य अणुओं अथवा पात्र की दीवारों से न टकराएं।एक अणु इकाई समय में शुद्ध गैस के इकाई आयतन में विद्यमान समस्त अन्य अणुओं से कितनी बार टकराता है, यह संख्या उस गैस की संघट्टन संख्या कहलाती है। इसे निम्न सूत्र द्वारा परिकलित किया जा सकता है

जहां = अणुओं का औसत वेग, p= संख्या घनत्व अर्थात् गैस के इकाई आयतन में विद्यमान अणुओं की संख्या और = संघट्टन व्यास अर्थात् टक्कर के समय दो अणुओं के केन्द्रों के मध्य की दूरी। इकाई समय में गैस के इकाई आयतन में टकराने वाले समस्त अणुओं की संख्या = 2π2 cp2 , चूंकि किसी भी एक टक्कर में दो अणु सम्बद्ध होते हैं, अतः इकाई समय में शुद्ध गैस के इकाई आयतन में होने वाली कुल टक्करों की संख्या Z11 को निम्न सूत्र द्वारा ज्ञात किया जा सकता है :
