question : A bag contains slips numbered from 1 to 100. If Fatima chooses a slip at random from the bag, it will either be an odd number or an even number. Since, this situation has only two possible outcomes, so the probability of each is Justify.

explanation of correct answer :

Total number of slips = 100

so we can say total number of outcomes = 100

odd numbers from 1 to 100 = 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 , 11 , …97, 99

So total numbers of odd numbers from 1 to 100 are = 50

so probability of getting odd number = odd numbers/total numbers

probability of getting odd number = 50/100 = 1/2

so the probability of getting odd number = 1/2

even numbers from 1 to 100 are = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 , 12…,96, 98, 100

so total total even numbers from 1 to 100 are = 50

so probability of getting even number = even numbers/total numbers

probability of getting even number = 50/100

probability of getting even number = 1/2

So we have seen that the probability of getting odd and even numbers is 1/2 in both (each) condition.

Hence proved.
